Scrapbook, 1724-1807.

This commonplace book in scrapbook form contains at least one Hartley family document, and other original material from the Milbanke family of North Yorkshire. The material was probably collected by Hartley or an ancestor. Most of the book consists of unattributed riddles, charades, and other humor dating from the 18th century. Some items are clipped from magazines, and many are in a variety of unknown manuscript hands. Elegies and epitaphs comprise most of the remainder. Among the most interesting original documents is a bill issued to puppet-master Harry Rowe.
